Medicaid Chiropractic Insurance Coverage
Medicaid is an insurance program offered by the federal and state governments to help low-income individuals, children, pregnant women, and disabled people get affordable healthcare. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed it into law in 1965.
Nebraska’s Medicaid chiropractor coverage includes treatments that meet ALL of the following criteria:
- The chiropractic service is a medical necessity.
- The service is for treating spinal subluxations, for which treatment provides a direct therapeutic benefit.
Insurance Coverage Limitations
Nebraska’s Medicaid health insurance for chiropractic care limits coverage of chiropractic services to the following:
- Certain spinal X-rays
- Manual manipulation of the spine
- Certain evaluation and management services
- Traction
- Electrical stimulation
- Ultrasound
- Certain therapeutic procedures, activities, and techniques designed and implemented to improve, develop, or maintain the function of the area treated.
No more than one treatment per client per day is covered.
Medicaid does not cover any diagnostic or therapeutic service or supply provided by a chiropractor that does not meet the definition of medical necessity.
